As part of our community outreach, we host a monthly health education event at the Flatbush Caton Market. Founded in 2000, the open air market is a space for Caribbean street vendors to sell their wares.
Because January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, we are focusing this month of both cervical cancer education and on mental health. In addition to several fun stress relieving activities, we will also offer diabetes and blood pressure screenings. In addition, we will distribute health information related to cervical cancer screening, COVID-19 vaccine information, and stress relief resources.
This month the event is being co-sponsored by Global Trauma Research, a Brooklyn-based organization committed to providing accessible and culturally responsive trauma, mental health, and education services to underserved populations. Services are available in Haitian-Creole, French, and Spanish.
